Mary-Kate Olsen to Star on 'Beastly' With Vanessa Hudgens

"The Wackness" actress Mary-Kate Olsen is tapped to star on teen romance movie "Beastly", following the footsteps of Vanessa Hudgenswho has been chosen to become the film's leading actress. Additionally,CBS Films also picks Alex Pettyfer, who previously worked on "Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker", to be one of the actors.

In April, Vanessa Hudgens was confirmed to star as Linda Owens, who isdescribed as "not beautiful, bearing red hair, green eyes and crookedteeth" fair maiden. Emily Browning and Jamie Chung will also join heron the movie, which is scheduled to be filmed in Montreal on June 13.

Set in modern-day New York City, "Beastly" is adapted from Alex Flinn'sfantasy novel with the same title and inspired by famous fairytale"Beauty and the Beast". On the movie, Olsen will portray KendraHilferty, a witch who put a curse on Pettyfer's Kyle Kingsbury, who isphysically transformed into everything he hates.

Daniel Barnz is appointed to be the director and Roz Weisberg will beco-producing the film. Then, Susan Cartsonis will produce it throughher Storefront Films shingle. The flick itself is scheduled to hit U.S.theaters on July 30, 2010.

Story's based on Alex Flinn's fantasy novel, a retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" set in modern-day New York. CBS acquired feature rights to "Beastly" in late 2007 as one of its first projects.

Shooting starts June 13 in Montreal. Roz Weisberg is co-producing.

Olsen last appeared in "The Wackness" opposite Ben Kingsley. Pettyfer starred in "Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker."

Vanessa Hudgenskeeps herself warm in her brown leather jacket as she strolls throughthe streets of Montreal, Quebec on Wednesday afternoon (June 3).

The 20-year-old actress, who is in town to film Beastly, made a quick stop at Starbucks and also stopped by Ogilvy department store, where she picked up a new bottle of perfume. Vanessa was also seen with a realtor, looking for a summer apartment in the historic Old Montreal district.

Also spotted was Vanessa?s ?Beast,? Alex Pettyfer leaving the film studios.

It was just announced that Mary-Kate Olsen would join the cast of Beastly as Kendra, the witch.

The 19-year-old British actor shared about their upcoming film, saying, “It’s an Alex Flinn book and [I'll be costarring] with Vanessa Hudgens. She’s really talented. She’s yet to prove herself so far because she’s only been in musicals but she’s got the film Bandslam which is about to come out, and Sucker Punch. And now she’s got Beastly too, which is cool. Will I be tempted to steal her off Zac [Efron]? No! She’s a beautiful girl but I wouldn’t steal her off her boyfriend! My kind of girl… maybe Natalie Portman, or Winona Ryder.”
